Now more than ever, says the Hudaki Village Band and performs abroad despite the war in their own country.
The seven wedding musicians and two singers come from the Ukrainian Carpathians in the border region to Romania and Hungary. For 20 years they have been making the nightly moments of happiness of their homeland's parties accessible to the uninitiated throughout Europe. Their ballads and dances are a naturally grown mixture of Roma sounds, Jewish nostalgia and joke, Ukrainian-Carpathian songfulness and Romanian melodious lightness.
This traditional music is still sung and played in the villages, especially at weddings. The Hudaki have fun giving it extra drive and deepness and with this, perform virtuously and authentically on stage.Part of the proceeds from the tour will benefit refugees in Ukraine.
